A Kickstarter project is reimbursing its backers despite having reached its funding goal.
New York-based OpenPlans, a non-profit technology organization, launched the campaign over the summer for Joyride -- a transit app for iOS 6 devices.
The group exceeded its $25,000 goal by raising $26,280, but announced last week it was halting production because of changes in staff.
According to the group's statement:
The trip planning in Joyride depends on up to date, accurate transit data, which we assemble from open data feeds provided by hundreds of individual transit operators. In the new year, the OpenTripPlanner team is spinning out from OpenPlans. With their departure, we won’t have the capacity here to keep the app up to date, and we’re not prepared to launch without being certain we can offer a viable ongoing service that people can depend on for their daily travel needs
The group says it's still releasing the app's code in hopes that another group of developers will use it.
